The Best Cold Press Juicers for Beginners

A first cold press machine should be forgiving, small and cheap enough that stopping would not sting.

A first cold press juicer is not a smaller version of a good cold press juicer. It is a different brief: forgiving when you feed it wrong, quick enough to clean that you still do it on day forty, and cheap enough that if juicing turns out not to be for you, the lesson was affordable.

Testing whether a daily juice habit will actually stick7.1/10

The three features a beginner genuinely benefits from

  1. 1.A reverse function. You will jam the machine, probably with celery, probably in the first week. Reverse backs the auger out and clears it in seconds. Without it you are taking the drum apart mid-glass. Nutribullet and AMZCHEF both state one.
  2. 2.Dishwasher-safe parts, or no mesh screen. Either removes most of the cleanup objection. Ninja states dishwasher-safe removable parts; Cuisinart removes the mesh screen entirely.
  3. 3.A small footprint. A juicer that lives on the counter gets used. One that has to be lifted out of a cupboard becomes a decision, and decisions lose to being busy.

What a beginner should not pay for

A hands-free hopper. Wonderful for batch juicing, pointless for one glass, and more surface to wash. A 15-year warranty. A genuine quality signal, but cover for a decade you have not committed to. Adjustable extraction. You do not yet know what you would adjust toward. The lowest RPM. 43 RPM is slower in your kitchen as well as on the page, and slow is the thing beginners complain about second.

Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every figure above is labeled with where it came from; “Not available” means we could not find a published source, not that the machine performs badly. How we pick.

The first week, honestly

Three things surprise almost every new cold press owner. Prep takes longer than juicing -- with a narrow chute you are chopping for several minutes before you start. One glass takes a lot of produce, considerably more than people estimate; how much celery one cup takes does that arithmetic. And it jams, usually on celery, usually because you fed it too fast.

None of those is a fault. They are what the mechanism is, and knowing them in advance is the difference between a habit and an abandoned appliance. Juicing for beginners covers the first fortnight in detail.

The picks in full

1. Best first cold press juicer

Nutribullet Slow Juicer

Nutribullet NBJ50300 · $100–200 · Our score 7.4/10

Small, cheap and forgiving. Nutribullet states 65 RPM, 150 W, a reverse function -- which is the feature a beginner needs most, because it clears a celery jam in seconds instead of requiring disassembly -- and a 17 x 6.25 in footprint that fits anywhere. 24 oz cup and a 1-year warranty are the honest limits.

Speed
Nutribullet states 65 RPM, 150 W, with a reverse functionManufacturer claim: Nutribullet · checked 2026-10-02

What works

  • Cold press mechanics at a centrifugal-adjacent price
  • Reverse function, which is how you clear a celery jam
  • Small footprint at 17 in tall and 6.25 in wide

What does not

  • 1-year warranty against 15 years on the premium verticals
  • 24 oz catch cup forces breaks on bigger batches
  • No published yield, pulp or cleanup figures

Skip this if: You juice for more than one person. A 24 oz container means stopping and emptying mid-session.

2. Best if cleanup worries you

Cuisinart Easy Clean Slow Juicer

Cuisinart CSJ-300 · $100–200 · Our score 7.7/10

Cuisinart's mesh-free easy-clean filter removes the part first-time owners complain about most, and the limited 3-year warranty is triple what Ninja or Nutribullet give you. Cuisinart publishes no RPM for it, which is a real information gap when you are trying to compare.

Speed
Not available - Cuisinart publishes 200 W but no RPM for this modelNot sourced

What works

  • No mesh screen, so the part most people hate washing is simply absent
  • 3-year warranty, triple what Ninja and Nutribullet quote
  • 1.5 L capacity is generous for the price

What does not

  • Cuisinart publishes no RPM, so you cannot compare its speed to anything
  • No yield figure of any kind
  • Mesh-free filters generally trade some fine extraction for easier washing

Skip this if: You want a published speed figure before you buy. Cuisinart does not state an RPM for this model anywhere we could find.

3. Best for learning what you like

Ninja NeverClog JC151

Ninja JC151 · $100–200 · Our score 7.9/10

Two swappable pulp filters mean you can find out whether you want pulp in the glass after buying rather than guessing before. Every removable part is dishwasher safe per Ninja. 150 W, no published RPM, 1-year US warranty.

What works

  • Genuine pulp choice: two filters, not a marketing claim
  • Dishwasher-safe removable parts
  • Widely stocked at the big retailers, so it is easy to find and easy to return

What does not

  • 1-year US warranty
  • Ninja publishes no RPM, so it cannot be compared on speed
  • 24-30 oz jug means emptying on bigger batches

Skip this if: You want a long warranty. Ninja covers this for one year in the US, against 15 on the premium verticals.

4. Cheapest way to try cold press

AMZCHEF ZM1501

AMZCHEF ZM1501 · Under $100 · Our score 7.1/10

Under $100 for genuine masticating mechanics. AMZCHEF states 90 RPM, 150 W, a reverse function and under 60 dB. Light build, and warranty terms differ between listings -- but as a way to find out whether a daily habit will stick without risking real money, it is the honest option.

What works

  • Masticating mechanics under $100
  • One of very few machines at any price that publishes a decibel figure
  • Reverse function for clearing jams

What does not

  • Warranty terms differ between the brand store and third-party listings - read the one you buy from
  • Small chute, so prep is heavy
  • No yield or cleanup figure published

Skip this if: You expect premium build. At this price the warranty is short and the parts are light - treat it as a trial machine.

When to upgrade, and to what

After a couple of months you will know which specific thing annoys you, and that tells you what to buy next. If it is cleanup, look at strainer-free machines. If it is prep, look at wide and auto-cut chutes -- Kuvings' REVO830. If it is standing at the machine, look at hands-free hoppers -- Nama's J2 or Kuvings' AUTO10. If it is nothing, you already bought the right machine.

Questions people ask

What is the best cold press juicer for a beginner?
Nutribullet's slow juicer: 65 RPM, a reverse function for clearing jams, a small footprint and the lowest price of any real cold press machine. Cuisinart's mesh-free CSJ-300 is the better pick if cleanup is your main worry.
How much should a beginner spend on a cold press juicer?
$100-200 covers it. That band now holds several genuine masticating machines, and the only real compromise against premium is warranty length. Below $100 there is one masticating option; above $400 you are paying for convenience features you cannot yet evaluate.
Are cold press juicers hard to use?
Not hard, but less forgiving than a centrifugal machine. You feed more slowly, you chop more, and you will jam it occasionally. A reverse function turns that jam from a disassembly into a five-second fix.
Will I actually keep using it?
That depends mostly on cleanup and produce cost, which is why we weight cleanup so heavily. Is a juicer worth it works through the real cost per glass before you spend anything.
