The Best Electric Citrus Juicers

A motor spins the cone so you only supply the push. The sweet spot for a daily glass of orange juice.

An electric citrus juicer spins a ribbed cone and you press half a fruit onto it. That removes the twisting effort a manual reamer demands while keeping the whole thing small, cheap and quick to wash. For a glass of orange juice most mornings it is the right category, and it is considerably cheaper than any general-purpose juicer.

The three things worth comparing

Pulp control. The most useful feature in the category and the one to pay for. Cuisinart states three settings on the CCJ-500; BLACK+DECKER states adjustable control on the CJ625; Breville states it on the 800CPXL. It is the difference between pulpy breakfast juice and clear juice for a cocktail, and in a household with differing opinions it is genuinely valuable.

Capacity. This varies far more than you would expect. Cuisinart's working capacity is 8 oz; BLACK+DECKER's pitcher is 32 oz. If you make one glass, 8 oz is fine. If you make breakfast for three, it is four pours and a lot of stopping.

Cone sizing. Auto-reversing cones -- stated by both Cuisinart and BLACK+DECKER -- rotate in both directions to extract more thoroughly, and dual-size cones handle limes and grapefruit from one machine. A single fixed cone will do one size well and the rest adequately.

What the wattage confusion tells you

The practical consequence is small: wattage is not a useful comparison point for citrus anyway, because the job is applying pressure to soft fruit rather than cutting through fiber. What matters is the cone, the pulp control and the capacity.

Fresh oranges beside a glass of orange juice
For a daily glass of orange juice, a $40 electric reamer beats a $400 slow juicer at that one job.

Electric reamer or a slow juicer?

If citrus is most of what you juice, buy the reamer. A cold press juicer will handle peeled oranges perfectly well, but it is slower, there are more parts to wash, and you have to peel the fruit first because the pith is bitter. Spending $400 to make orange juice is a thing people do and generally regret.

If citrus is one item on a list that also includes celery, kale or carrots, buy the general machine and accept that oranges will be slightly more work. Juicers for oranges covers that case, and centrifugal vs citrus compares the mechanisms directly.

The picks in full

1. Best electric citrus juicer

Cuisinart Pulp Control Citrus Juicer

Cuisinart CCJ-500 · Under $100 · Our score 8.3/10

Cuisinart states three pulp control settings -- low, medium and high -- and an auto-reversing universal cone that handles small limes through large grapefruit, with a limited 3-year warranty. That warranty is the quiet headline: longer than Breville quotes on a press costing several times more. Cuisinart publishes no wattage or RPM for this model, so you cannot compare it on power, and the working capacity is 8 oz so you pour off as you go.

What works

  • Three pulp settings at a budget price
  • The auto-reversing cone handles small limes and large grapefruit
  • 3-year warranty

What does not

  • Citrus only
  • Cuisinart publishes no power figure
  • 8 oz working capacity means pouring off as you go

Skip this if: You want one juicer for everything. This does citrus and nothing else.

2. Biggest pitcher, lowest price

BLACK+DECKER Citrus Juicer

BLACK+DECKER CJ625 · Under $100 · Our score 8.0/10

A 32 oz pitcher is four times the Cuisinart's working capacity, which for a household making several glasses is the difference between one session and four. BLACK+DECKER states dual auto-reversing cones, adjustable pulp control, dishwasher-safe parts and a 2-year limited warranty. One honest flag: retailer listings quote 30 W, 150 W and 400 W for this model and we could not resolve that against a primary source, so we publish no wattage.

What works

  • 32 oz pitcher, far bigger than most electric reamers
  • Dual cones cover limes through grapefruit
  • Adjustable pulp control at the lowest price in the category

What does not

  • Published wattage is genuinely inconsistent across listings
  • Light build at this price
  • Citrus only

Skip this if: You want to know what you are buying on paper. Wattage figures for this model differ wildly between listings, and BLACK+DECKER does not resolve it.

3. Best powered press

Breville Citrus Press Pro 800CPXL

Breville 800CPXL · $200–400 · Our score 8.2/10

Technically electric, mechanically a press: Breville states a die-cast powered lever arm with 110 W, a Quadra-Fin acid-resistant cone, adjustable pulp control and a dual-switch safety feature that will not let the cone spin until the arm is lowered with pressure. Four dishwasher-safe parts. At 10.6 lb this is a counter fixture, and the warranty is only 1 year.

What works

  • The powered lever does the work, so no hand strength is needed
  • Adjustable pulp control, which most citrus juicers lack
  • Four parts, all dishwasher safe

What does not

  • Expensive and heavy for a single-purpose tool
  • 1-year warranty
  • Citrus only - it will not touch a stalk of celery

Skip this if: You juice two lemons a week. A 10.6 lb die-cast press is absurd for that, and a hand squeezer is not.

Questions people ask

What is the best electric citrus juicer?
Cuisinart's CCJ-500: three pulp settings, an auto-reversing cone for limes through grapefruit, and a limited 3-year warranty. BLACK+DECKER's CJ625 is the pick if you need a bigger pitcher for less money.
How many watts should an electric citrus juicer have?
It is not a useful comparison point, because the job is pressure on soft fruit rather than cutting fiber. Breville states 110 W for the 800CPXL, Cuisinart publishes nothing for the CCJ-500, and BLACK+DECKER's figures conflict across listings. Judge these on cone, pulp control and capacity instead.
Is an electric citrus juicer better than a manual one?
Easier, not better. The juice is much the same; what you are buying is the removal of effort. For a few lemons a week a hand squeezer is the sensible purchase.
Can an electric citrus juicer do grapefruit?
Yes, if the cone suits it. Cuisinart states its auto-reversing universal cone accommodates small limes and large grapefruits, and BLACK+DECKER states dual cones on the CJ625.
Are electric citrus juicers easy to clean?
Generally yes -- few parts, no fine fiber screen. Breville states that the cone, collector, filter and fruit dome on the 800CPXL are dishwasher safe, and BLACK+DECKER states dishwasher-safe parts on the CJ625.
