The Best Citrus Juicers

Five machines spanning $20 to $300 that all do the same job. How much citrus you squeeze decides which one is right.

We earn a commission if you buy through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend or the order we rank things in. Full disclosure.

Citrus is the one kind of produce that does not need a juicer. The fruit is already liquid in soft segments, so the only job is applying pressure. That is why a $20 hand tool and a $300 commercial press both extract citrus juice properly, and why the right choice depends almost entirely on how much of it you squeeze.

Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every figure above is labeled with where it came from; “Not available” means we could not find a published source, not that the machine performs badly. How we pick.

What separates these machines

Who supplies the force. A reamer needs you to twist fruit onto a cone. An electric reamer spins the cone for you but still needs downward pressure. A lever press converts a short arm pull into high force -- Hamilton Beach Commercial quotes up to 2,000 lb for the 932. That distinction matters far more for comfort than for the juice.

Pulp control. The feature worth paying for. Cuisinart states three settings on the CCJ-500; Breville states adjustable pulp control on the 800CPXL; BLACK+DECKER states it on the CJ625. A hand squeezer gives you whatever the perforations give you.

Parts to wash. A hand squeezer is one piece. Breville's press is four dishwasher-safe pieces. Hamilton Beach's commercial press has a swing-out collector, a strainer cone and a funnel. More force generally means more components.

Fresh oranges beside a glass of orange juice
Volume is the deciding variable. Everything else in this category is secondary to how many fruit you go through.

What a citrus juicer will not do

Celery, carrots, kale, apples or ginger. Not slowly, not badly -- not at all. There is no cutting mechanism and no fiber screen; these are pressure devices for soft segmented fruit. If you want citrus and vegetables from one machine, you are shopping in the cold press category, and you will peel the oranges first. Juicers for oranges explains how that works and what it costs.

The picks in full

1. Best citrus juicer overall

Cuisinart Pulp Control Citrus Juicer

Cuisinart CCJ-500 · Under $100 · Our score 8.3/10

The right answer for most households. Cuisinart states three pulp control settings and an auto-reversing cone that handles small limes through large grapefruit, plus a limited 3-year warranty -- longer than Breville quotes on a press costing several times more. A motor removes the effort without requiring counter space for a press. Cuisinart publishes no wattage or RPM for it, which is a genuine information gap.

What works

  • Three pulp settings at a budget price
  • The auto-reversing cone handles small limes and large grapefruit
  • 3-year warranty

What does not

  • Citrus only
  • Cuisinart publishes no power figure
  • 8 oz working capacity means pouring off as you go

Skip this if: You want one juicer for everything. This does citrus and nothing else.

2. Best for volume

Breville Citrus Press Pro 800CPXL

Breville 800CPXL · $200–400 · Our score 8.2/10

The machine a cafe buys. Breville states a die-cast powered lever arm, a Quadra-Fin acid-resistant cone, adjustable pulp control, a dual-switch safety feature, and four dishwasher-safe parts. The lever does the work, so a dozen oranges is not a workout. At 10.6 lb and 110 W it is a permanent counter fixture, and the warranty is only 1 year.

What works

  • The powered lever does the work, so no hand strength is needed
  • Adjustable pulp control, which most citrus juicers lack
  • Four parts, all dishwasher safe

What does not

  • Expensive and heavy for a single-purpose tool
  • 1-year warranty
  • Citrus only - it will not touch a stalk of celery

Skip this if: You juice two lemons a week. A 10.6 lb die-cast press is absurd for that, and a hand squeezer is not.

3. Best hand squeezer

Chef'n FreshForce Citrus Juicer

Chef'n · Under $100 · Our score 8.7/10

For a few lemons and limes a week nothing else is justified. Chef'n states a dual-gear mechanism that multiplies grip pressure, a perforated bowl that strains seeds and most pulp, and top-rack dishwasher safety. It lives in a drawer. Chef'n claims 20 percent more juice than conventional handheld juicers without stating what it was compared against, so treat that as marketing.

What works

  • The dual gear mechanism multiplies hand pressure
  • One piece, dishwasher safe, and it lives in a drawer
  • The cheapest tool on the whole site

What does not

  • The 20 percent claim is Chef'n's own and has no stated comparison basis
  • It still needs hand strength - read the arthritis guide before buying
  • Lemon and lime sized, not orange sized

Skip this if: You want a full glass of orange juice. Handheld squeezers are for a few ounces, not a breakfast habit.

4. Cheapest electric worth owning

BLACK+DECKER Citrus Juicer

BLACK+DECKER CJ625 · Under $100 · Our score 8.0/10

A 32 oz pitcher -- far larger than most electric reamers -- with dual auto-reversing cones, adjustable pulp control and dishwasher-safe parts per BLACK+DECKER, plus a 2-year limited warranty. Worth flagging honestly: retailer listings for this model quote 30 W, 150 W and 400 W, and we could not resolve that against a primary source, so we state no wattage at all.

What works

  • Adjustable pulp control at the lowest price in the category

What does not

  • Light build at this price

5. Best commercial-grade press

Hamilton Beach Commercial 932

Hamilton Beach Commercial 932 · $200–400 · Our score 7.9/10

If you squeeze citrus in genuine volume, this is a different class of object. Hamilton Beach Commercial states the extractor arm creates up to 2,000 lb of pressure -- the only pressure figure anybody in this category publishes -- with an acid-resistant chrome and porcelain finish and NSF certification. It is 19.5 in tall, weighs 11 lb, and carries only a 1-year warranty.

  • Acid-resistant chrome and porcelain finish, built for constant citrus contact
  • NSF certified, so it is built to commercial hygiene standards

What does not

  • 19.5 in tall and 11 lb - a permanent counter fixture
  • 1-year warranty on a commercial-priced machine
  • Citrus only, and overkill for domestic volume

Skip this if: This is a 19.5 in tall, 11 lb commercial fixture. For a few lemons a week it is absurd, and a hand squeezer is the right answer.

Questions people ask

What is the best citrus juicer?
Cuisinart's CCJ-500 for most households: three pulp settings, an auto-reversing cone and a 3-year warranty at a modest price. Breville's 800CPXL if you squeeze in volume, and a Chef'n hand squeezer if you only do a few lemons a week.
Do I need an electric citrus juicer?
Only if you squeeze citrus most days. For a few lemons or limes a week a hand squeezer does the same job, washes in seconds and lives in a drawer. Volume is the deciding factor, not juice quality.
What is the difference between a citrus press and a citrus juicer?
A press uses a lever to multiply force -- Hamilton Beach Commercial quotes up to 2,000 lb for the 932. A citrus juicer usually means a motorized reamer you press fruit onto. Our full comparison covers all three mechanisms.
Can a citrus juicer juice vegetables?
No. There is no cutting mechanism and no fiber screen. For mixed produce you need a cold press or centrifugal machine.
Which citrus juicer gives the most juice?
Nobody publishes a comparable yield figure, so this cannot be answered from published data. A lever press applies the most force, which is the best available proxy, and Hamilton Beach Commercial is the only brand that publishes a pressure figure at all.
