The Best Juicers for Wheatgrass

The produce that genuinely divides the category. Most vertical slow juicers cannot do this.

Wheatgrass is the single produce item that most clearly divides this category. It is short, extremely fine and almost entirely fiber, and it needs to be crushed along its length between two surfaces. A horizontal auger or a pair of twin gears does that. A vertical slow juicer mostly does not, and a centrifugal machine does not at all.

Why most verticals fail at it

A vertical slow juicer depends partly on gravity to bring produce onto the auger. Wheatgrass has essentially no weight -- a handful of it sits on top of the chute rather than descending -- and the blades are short enough that they tend to pass through the gap between auger and screen without being properly gripped.

On a horizontal machine you push the bundle directly along the auger, so you supply the feeding force rather than relying on gravity. On a twin gear machine the two gears pull the bundle in between them. Both of those are mechanisms; the vertical version is a hope.

Some verticals manage it adequately, particularly very slow ones -- Omega's 43 RPM VSJ843 does better than most. But if wheatgrass is a significant part of your routine, buy horizontal or twin gear and do not expect a vertical to be the answer. Vertical slow juicers says the same thing on its own page.

What about a dedicated wheatgrass juicer?

They exist -- small hand-cranked machines built for nothing else -- and they work. We do not cover them in our registry because we have not verified current availability and specifications for any model to the standard we hold everything else on this site to, and we would rather say that than list something we have not checked.

If you juice wheatgrass and nothing else, they are worth researching. If wheatgrass is one item among many, a horizontal masticating machine is the practical choice and it does everything else too.

Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every figure above is labeled with where it came from; “Not available” means we could not find a published source, not that the machine performs badly. How we pick.

Technique

  1. 1.Feed a thin, tightly gathered bundle. Not a loose handful. Gather it into a dense strand so the auger or gears have something to grip.
  2. 2.Feed very slowly. Wheatgrass is the produce where patience pays most, and the yield from any single pass is small.
  3. 3.Run the pulp through a second time. With wheatgrass this routinely produces a meaningful additional amount, because the first pass is working against the hardest feeding problem in juicing.
  4. 4.Expect a small volume. An ounce or two from a generous handful is the realistic order of magnitude. That is the produce, not the machine.
  5. 5.Clean immediately. Fine grass fiber dries into a mesh screen and gear teeth faster and more stubbornly than almost anything else.

The cleanup warning

Wheatgrass fiber is fine, and fine fiber is what mesh screens and gear teeth hold onto. On a twin gear machine in particular, wheatgrass is the produce that makes the cleanup genuinely demanding rather than just tedious -- the gear teeth need attention and the supplied brush is the only practical way in.

Rinse immediately, before the juice. Dried grass fiber in a screen is far harder to remove than wet. Cold press juicer cleanup covers the routine.

The picks in full

1. Best for wheatgrass overall

Tribest Greenstar Pro

Tribest GSE-5050 series · $400+ · Our score 7.3/10

Twin gears crushing from both sides is the mechanism wheatgrass actually needs, and the 1.5 in chute Tribest states is irrelevant here because you are feeding a thin bundle of grass. 110 RPM, 200 W and a 12-year household warranty. The cost is real: 27 lb and the heaviest cleanup in home juicing, and wheatgrass fiber is fine enough to get into every gear tooth.

Tribest states 110 RPM, 200 WManufacturer claim: Tribest · checked 2026-10-02

What works

  • Twin-gear trituration is the most thorough mechanism in home juicing
  • Handles wheatgrass and hard greens that defeat verticals
  • 12-year household warranty

What does not

  • 27 lb and 18.6 in wide
  • 1.5 in chute, so everything gets chopped first
  • The most parts, and the most awkward parts, to clean of anything here

Skip this if: You are buying your first juicer. This is a 27 lb specialist machine with a 1.5 in chute and the heaviest cleanup of anything we cover.

2. Best horizontal for wheatgrass

Omega NC900HDC

Omega NC900HDC · $200–400 · Our score 7.9/10

A horizontal auger you feed directly is the practical answer for most people. Omega states five adjustable end-cap pressure settings, which lets you run high pressure on very fine fiber, plus two juicing screens and a 15-year limited warranty at 80 RPM. 19.22 in wide and 18.7 lb. Full review.

What works

  • Five pressure settings give real control over pulp and extraction
  • Handles wheatgrass, which most verticals do poorly
  • 15-year warranty on a design that has been iterated for years

What does not

  • 19.22 in wide, which is a counter-depth problem in small kitchens
  • More parts to wash than any vertical here
  • 18.7 lb, so it lives out on the counter whether you like it or not

Skip this if: Your counter is shallow, or cleanup is what will make you quit. It is over 19 in wide and there are more parts to wash than on any vertical here.

3. Best value for wheatgrass

Omega J8006HDS

Omega J8006HDS · $200–400 · Our score 7.9/10

The same 80 RPM horizontal auger and 15-year warranty at a lower price, with a triple-stage auger per Omega. Without the pressure adjustment you have slightly less control over very fine fiber, but the horizontal geometry -- which is the part that matters for wheatgrass -- is identical. Full review.

What works

  • 15-year warranty at a mid-range price
  • A horizontal auger handles stringy celery and greens well
  • Doubles as a nut-butter, pasta and sorbet extruder

What does not

  • Narrow chute means constant prep chopping
  • Takes significant counter depth
  • Omega publishes no yield or cleanup figure to compare

Skip this if: You juice mostly whole apples and oranges. You will spend your life chopping to fit a narrow horizontal chute.

Questions people ask

What is the best juicer for wheatgrass?
Tribest's Greenstar Pro twin gear machine mechanically, or Omega's NC900HDC if you want something you can actually live with. Both are horizontal or twin gear, which is the requirement -- most vertical slow juicers struggle with wheatgrass.
Can a vertical slow juicer juice wheatgrass?
Most do it poorly. Wheatgrass has almost no weight, so gravity does not feed it onto the auger, and the short blades tend to pass through without being gripped. Very slow verticals do better than fast ones but a horizontal machine is the right tool.
Can a centrifugal juicer juice wheatgrass?
No. Wheatgrass is almost entirely fine fiber with the liquid bound inside it, and a spinning disc has no way to crush that. You will get green-stained pulp and very little juice.
How much juice does wheatgrass produce?
Very little -- an ounce or two from a generous handful is the realistic order. That is the produce rather than the machine, and running the pulp through a second time genuinely helps.
Is wheatgrass hard on a juicer to clean?
Yes. Fine grass fiber lodges in mesh screens and, on twin gear machines, in the gear teeth. Rinse immediately -- dried grass fiber is considerably harder to remove than wet.
