The Best Horizontal Masticating Juicers
The traditional shape, and still the only one with adjustable extraction and genuine wheatgrass capability.

Horizontal masticating juicers lay the auger flat and you push produce along it. It is the older shape, it has largely been displaced by verticals for general use, and it is still the right answer for two specific things: wheatgrass, and wanting control over how hard the machine squeezes.

The two reasons to buy horizontal
1. Adjustable extraction
Omega states five end-cap pressure settings on the NC900HDC, plus two different juicing screens. That means you can increase the back-pressure the auger works against, which matters because the ideal pressure is not the same for a carrot as for a tomato: too much and soft produce clogs, too little and hard produce goes through under-squeezed.
No vertical in our registry offers anything equivalent. If you juice a genuinely varied mix of produce and you want to tune for it, this is the only category that lets you. It is also the only documented extraction capability anybody publishes, as opposed to an unverifiable yield claim -- see juicer yield explained.
2. Wheatgrass
Horizontal augers handle wheatgrass; most verticals do not. The grass is short, fine and extremely fibrous, and the horizontal geometry crushes it along the length of the auger rather than relying on gravity to feed it. If wheatgrass is part of your routine, this category or a twin gear machine is the realistic choice. See juicers for wheatgrass.

What it costs you
Counter depth. Omega publishes 19.22 in of width for the NC900HDC, and you need clear space beyond that to feed produce in from the side. In a galley kitchen that is most of a worktop.
Weight. 18.7 lb per Omega. That is not a machine anybody lifts in and out of a cupboard twice a day, which in practice means it lives on the counter permanently.
Parts. More of them than any vertical, and the long auger housing is the least convenient shape to get a brush into. This is the category where the easiest juicers to clean is genuinely a different page with different machines on it.
Prep. Narrow feed openings across the board. Everything gets chopped first.

The picks in full
1. Best horizontal overall
Omega NC900HDC
Omega NC900HDC · $200–400 · Our score 7.9/10
The only machine on this site with real control over extraction: Omega states five adjustable end-cap pressure settings and two juicing screens, so you can run harder on dense produce and looser on soft. 80 RPM, 150 W output and a 15-year limited warranty. The cost is stated plainly by Omega itself: 19.22 in wide and 18.7 lb. Full review.

What works
- Five pressure settings give real control over pulp and extraction
- Handles wheatgrass, which most verticals do poorly
- 15-year warranty on a design that has been iterated for years
What does not
- 19.22 in wide, which is a counter-depth problem in small kitchens
- More parts to wash than any vertical here
- 18.7 lb, so it lives out on the counter whether you like it or not
Skip this if: Your counter is shallow, or cleanup is what will make you quit. It is over 19 in wide and there are more parts to wash than on any vertical here.

2. Best value horizontal
Omega J8006HDS
Omega J8006HDS · $200–400 · Our score 7.9/10
The same 80 RPM horizontal mechanism and the same 15-year warranty for meaningfully less money, with a triple-stage auger per Omega. You give up the five-setting pressure adjustment. For most people that is the right trade, which is why this machine also tops our best juicers page. Full review.

What works
- 15-year warranty at a mid-range price
- A horizontal auger handles stringy celery and greens well
- Doubles as a nut-butter, pasta and sorbet extruder
What does not
- Narrow chute means constant prep chopping
- Takes significant counter depth
- Omega publishes no yield or cleanup figure to compare
Skip this if: You juice mostly whole apples and oranges. You will spend your life chopping to fit a narrow horizontal chute.

3. Cheapest horizontal
AMZCHEF ZM1501
AMZCHEF ZM1501 · Under $100 · Our score 7.1/10
Horizontal masticating mechanics under $100. AMZCHEF states 90 RPM, 150 W, a reverse function and operation below 60 decibels -- the only published noise figure in our whole registry. Treat it as a trial machine: light parts, and warranty terms that differ between the brand store and third-party listings.

What works
- Masticating mechanics under $100
- One of very few machines at any price that publishes a decibel figure
- Reverse function for clearing jams
What does not
- Warranty terms differ between the brand store and third-party listings - read the one you buy from
- Small chute, so prep is heavy
- No yield or cleanup figure published
Skip this if: You expect premium build. At this price the warranty is short and the parts are light - treat it as a trial machine.

4. Smallest horizontal
Dash Deluxe Compact Masticating Juicer
Dash DCSJ255 · $100–200 · Our score 6.8/10
For kitchens that cannot give up 19 in of counter. Dash states 130 W and a 20 oz cup, with a frozen-dessert attachment, and the warranty extends to 2 years with registration. 130 W is the weakest motor we cover and Dash publishes no RPM, so a daily carrot habit is asking a lot.

What works
- Genuinely small - the footprint is the feature
- Frozen-dessert attachment included
- The second warranty year is free if you register it
What does not
- 130 W is the weakest motor in this registry
- 20 oz cup is small
- No RPM published, so it cannot be compared on speed
Skip this if: You juice hard carrots and beets daily. 130 W is the least power of any masticating machine here.

Horizontal or twin gear?
If you have got this far because you want maximum extraction from difficult produce, the next step up is twin gear -- Tribest's Greenstar Pro, at 110 RPM with two interlocking gears. It is mechanically more thorough and it is a substantially bigger commitment: 27 lb, a 1.5 in chute, and the heaviest cleanup in home juicing. Twin gear juicers covers whether that is you.
