Tribest Slowstar SW-2000 Review

A 47 RPM vertical that is genuinely two machines. Also 19 pounds, with a duty cycle you should know about.

The Slowstar is a 47 RPM vertical cold press juicer with a second job. The included mincing attachment turns it into a food processor for pates, sorbets and nut butters, which makes it genuinely two machines rather than a juicer with a marketing bullet. The catches are 19 lb of weight and a stated duty cycle of under 30 minutes.

Everything Tribest publishes for this model. Scroll the table sideways on a narrow screen. Every figure above is labeled with where it came from; “Not available” means we could not find a published source, not that the machine performs badly. How we pick.

What Tribest states

  • 47 RPM, near the slow end of vertical cold press.
  • 200 W, with a stated torque power of 9.4 HP.
  • Maximum continuous use of under 30 minutes.
  • 120 V, 60 Hz.
  • 19 lb net weight, 190 x 225 x 460 mm.
  • A 10-year warranty.
  • A duo-blade auger and a mincing attachment.

Tribest is one of the few brands that publishes a duty cycle at all, and we would rather have that information than not. Thirty minutes is ample for domestic juicing -- a full batch session is typically well under it -- but if you were planning to run it continuously for an hour, now you know not to.

The mincing attachment

Worth taking seriously rather than dismissing as an accessory. It is a homogenizing screen that replaces the juicing screen, turning the auger into a mincer -- which produces pates, nut butters, frozen fruit sorbets and baby food.

If that replaces a food processor you would otherwise buy, the economics of this machine change substantially. If it does not, you are paying for a part that will stay in a drawer, and Omega's VSJ843 is slower and carries a longer warranty for similar money.

47 RPM and the torque claim

47 RPM is the second-slowest figure in our registry after Omega's VSJ843 at 43 RPM, and slow crushing is the mechanism that suits long fiber. The duo-blade auger is Tribest's approach to grabbing produce at that speed.

The 9.4 HP torque figure is a specification about force rather than about yield, and we want to be careful not to let it drift into being read as one. Tribest publishes no yield figure, as nobody in this category does. More torque means a machine less likely to stall; it does not quantify extraction.

The warranty, in context

10 years is good -- considerably better than the 1 to 3 years on cheaper machines -- and it is shorter than the 15 years Omega, Hurom and Kuvings quote on comparable or cheaper models. Tribest's own twin gear Greenstar range carries 12 years for household use.

At this price, Omega's J8006HDS offers a 15-year warranty on a horizontal auger. That is the direct competitive comparison and it is a real one.

Who this is for

Somebody who wants one machine for juice and for pates, sorbets or nut butters, and who will actually use the second function. Also somebody who wants a slow vertical -- 47 RPM -- with high stated torque for hard produce.

Who should skip it

Anybody who only wants juice. You are paying for an attachment and for 19 lb of machine, and the warranty is five years shorter than Omega's at comparable money. Anybody who needs to store the machine between uses -- 19 lb does not go in and out of a cupboard willingly.

And anybody planning extended continuous sessions, given the stated sub-30-minute duty cycle. For big batches, Kuvings' AUTO10 is explicitly rated for 45 minutes.

Where it appears on this site

The Slowstar appears on best masticating juicers and best juicers under $300. For alternatives at similar money, Omega J8006HDS is the warranty argument and Omega VSJ843 the slower-vertical one.

What works

  • Mincing attachment included, so it is genuinely two machines
  • 47 RPM with high stated torque
  • Mid-range street price for a premium-tier vertical

What does not

  • 19 lb, and it does not want to live in a cupboard
  • Rated for under 30 minutes continuous use
  • The 10-year warranty is shorter than the 15 Omega and Hurom quote

Skip this if: You only want juice. You are paying for a mincing attachment and 19 lb of machine you will never use for anything else.

Questions people ask

Is the Tribest Slowstar a good juicer?
It is a capable 47 RPM vertical with high stated torque and a genuinely useful mincing attachment. The reservations are a 10-year warranty where Omega quotes 15 at similar money, and 19 lb of weight.
What does the Slowstar's mincing attachment do?
It replaces the juicing screen with a homogenizing one, turning the auger into a mincer for pates, nut butters, frozen sorbets and baby food. If it replaces a food processor you would otherwise buy, it changes the value calculation.
What is the Slowstar's duty cycle?
Tribest states maximum continuous use of under 30 minutes. That is ample for domestic juicing but worth knowing if you planned long unattended sessions -- Kuvings' AUTO10 is rated for 45 minutes.
What is the Tribest Slowstar's warranty?
Tribest states 10 years. That is good, and shorter than the 15 years Omega, Hurom and Kuvings quote on comparable or cheaper machines.
Does 9.4 HP torque mean more juice?
No. It is a force specification, not a yield one, and Tribest publishes no yield figure. More torque means the machine is less likely to stall on hard produce.
Is the Slowstar good for leafy greens?
Yes -- 47 RPM is the second-slowest speed in our registry, and slow crushing is what long fiber responds to. Tribest also states high torque, which means less stalling on dense material. Fine wheatgrass is still better suited to a horizontal or twin-gear machine.
How does the Slowstar compare to the Greenstar Pro?
They are different machines from the same brand. The Slowstar is a 47 RPM single-auger vertical at 19 lb with a 10-year warranty; the Greenstar Pro is a 110 RPM twin-gear machine at 27 lb with a 12-year household warranty and considerably heavier cleanup. The Slowstar is the one most people should buy.
