Similar money, opposite mechanisms. This is the fast-versus-slow decision with two specific machines attached.

Buy the Breville if your list is apples, carrots and beets and you want a glass in minutes. Buy the Ninja if celery or leafy greens are in the plan. Same price band, opposite mechanisms, and the produce question decides it rather than the price.

What each machine is

The Breville JE98XL is a centrifugal juicer: Breville states an 850 W motor with dual speeds at 6,500 and 12,000 RPM, a 3 in feed tube, and a carafe with a froth separator. A 1-year limited warranty.

The Ninja NeverClog JC151 is a cold press machine: Ninja states 150 W, two swappable pulp filters, and that all removable parts are dishwasher safe. No RPM is published. A 1-year US warranty, 2 years in some regions.

The wattage comparison is the one to not misread. 850 W against 150 W does not mean the Breville is more capable -- it means a spinning basket needs a lot of power and an auger does not. Comparing wattage across mechanisms tells you nothing useful.

Choose the Breville if

  • Your list is apples, carrots, beets, cucumber and peeled citrus. On these the mechanism gap narrows and the Breville is far faster.
  • You want zero prep. A 3 in chute takes a whole apple; the Ninja's narrow chute means chopping.
  • Time is the deciding factor. Two to five minutes against roughly twelve including cleanup.
  • You want more capacity. 33½ fl oz against 24-30 oz.

Choose the Ninja if

  • Celery, kale, chard or spinach are in the plan. A spinning basket cuts across long fiber rather than crushing along it, and no setting fixes that.
  • Noise matters. A cold press auger against a basket at up to 12,000 RPM is not a close contest.
  • You want pulp control. Two filters versus a froth separator.
  • You batch and store juice. Less aeration means slower color and taste change.
  • You want the dishwasher to clean it. Ninja states all removable parts are dishwasher safe; Breville does not state it on the pages we checked.

For apples, the Breville. For celery, the Ninja. The produce decides, not the price.

Our verdict

The Ninja, for most people buying their first juicer -- because a cold press machine covers both produce lists and the only thing it costs you is time, while a centrifugal machine simply cannot do celery or greens. Flexibility is worth more than ten minutes a day when you do not yet know what you will juice.

The Breville is clearly the better buy for a known apple-and-carrot habit, and we would not steer you away from it. It is faster, it needs no chopping, and on that produce the mechanism costs you very little. Best juicers under $200 covers the rest of the band.

What works

  • Genuine pulp choice: two filters, not a marketing claim
  • Dishwasher-safe removable parts
  • Widely stocked at the big retailers, so it is easy to find and easy to return

What does not

  • 1-year US warranty
  • Ninja publishes no RPM, so it cannot be compared on speed
  • 24-30 oz jug means emptying on bigger batches

Skip this if: You want a long warranty. Ninja covers this for one year in the US, against 15 on the premium verticals.

Questions people ask

Is the Breville JE98XL or the Ninja NeverClog better?
It depends on produce. The Breville is faster with a 3 in chute and is excellent on apples and carrots. The Ninja is a cold press machine, so it handles celery and leafy greens, which the Breville cannot.
Why does the Breville have so many more watts?
Because a spinning basket needs a lot of power and a slow auger does not. Comparing 850 W against 150 W across different mechanisms tells you nothing about capability.
Which is faster?
The Breville, substantially. A 3 in chute removes the prep and a glass takes two to five minutes against roughly twelve on the Ninja including cleanup.
Which is quieter?
The Ninja, by a wide margin. Breville states up to 12,000 RPM for the JE98XL; a cold press auger turns at tens of RPM. Neither brand publishes a decibel figure.
Can the Breville juice celery at all?
It will produce some juice and a lot of wet pulp. The basket cuts across the fiber rather than crushing along it, so most of the stalk's liquid stays in the pulp bin.
